Practice Radical Humility

Our final of the 10 Rules for Life is to Practice Radical Humility. Relax as you watch these tips!

The Personal Kaizen team is sharing our 10 Rules for Life. Please watch all of our videos beginning with Rule 1.

RULE 10: Practice Radical Humility.

Humility comes from understanding our place in the larger order of things and not taking our desires, failures, or successes too seriously.

Humility is linked to learning and teachability – a way of being that embraces constant self-correction and self-improvement.

Realize you are insignificant and practice radical humility
You are not important. Neither is anyone else.

We all live in an insignificant place in a brief moment of time. We are not the center of the universe.

You are one of several billion humans on a small planet that circles a small star in an inconsequential galaxy. You’re here for such a brief period of time. When you acknowledge the futility of what you’re doing it can bring great happiness and peace.

Much of our life is outside of our direct control. We all experience good and bad luck. Take advantage of the former and don’t let bad luck get you down. Focus on the areas where you have control and influence.

Ideas for Action

Realizing all this can be liberating. Practice radical humility.

  • Mind your own business and speak little about yourself.
  • Ignore the mistakes of others. They aren’t that important.
  • Accept anger and contradictions with a smile.
  • Learn from others but don’t let them bring you down.
  • Don’t be nervous or embarrassed – nobody cares or will remember.
  • Don’t worry about things you can’t control.
  • Do your best and enjoy yourself.

Life is a fun game. Anytime you are stressed, nervous, worried, embarrassed, or not having fun you’re wasting your existence. Realizing that other people barely ever think of you or notice you can be liberating.

Smile more and leave the world a better place.

Suggested Action: Identify one thing that is currently bothering you (about your body, your partner, your job, etc.) and realize how insignificant this matter really is. Laugh out loud about this realization. Feel better.
